OPENING EVENT

Classical Spectacular
March 8 1997
20,000 people were held spellbound for the "Dance of the Diggers". Another superb Alan Smythe event, full of music, laser lights and fireworks.

 

FIRST SPORTING EVENT

Super 12 Rugby
Blues vs Chiefs
15 March 1997
A sold out crowd of 25,000 for the first sporting event at the Stadium. At that stage Harbour were part of the Chiefs family and though they tried hard could not beat the class of the Blues.

NZ vs Australia
28 June 1997
Fantastic crowd support for this game on a very warm Saturday afternoon.

26 September 1997
Who thought the Kiwis would win but win they did with a last minute try. This match has be recognised as one of the most riveting, nailbiting, best result events staged here at the Stadium. An evening that continues to be talked about even now!

CARMEN - Landscape Opera

A star studded cast of hundreds. Opera at its finest in all its glory.
Highlight: Mark Todd leading the horses into battle, the costumes, the singing and the fireworks.

 

RUGBY LEAGUE

NZ Kiwis vs Australia
24 April 1998
Unbelievable, they did it again, a superb win by the Kiwis. Right from kick off the NZ Kiwis had the Aussies on the back foot.
Highlight: 17,000 supporters who didn't want to go home at full time.

FIFA UNDER -17 World Youth Soccer

November 1999
200 million viewers around the world watched incredibly talented players over a ten day period at North Harbour Stadium. Brazil being eventual winners over Australia in a penalty shoot out.

The Corrs

October 14 2001
After a postponment in February the Corrs arrived in NZ for a one off concert at North Harbour Stadium. A fantastic evening of song and dance for the 14,000 fans who came along.

Harbour NPC Season 2001

What a fantastic 2001 season for the Harbour boys. A home semi final and some big away wins.
Highlight: Home wins against Canterbury and Auckland. Also remembered for the rain at every home game.
